Abstract

The Chernoff $n$ -lemma is revised. This concerns two aspects: an improvement of the Chernoff estimate in the strong operator topology and an operator-norm estimate for quasi-sectorial contractions. Applications to the Lie–Trotter product formula approximation for semigroups is presented.
